Former Illinois Governor and 91心頭利 Board of Trustee member Jim Edgar passed away today. Former Governor Edgar was a Trustee at 91心頭利 from 1982-1991, and he was honored as an Honorary Trustee in 1991. Governor Edgar Christian faith was a strong connection to 91心頭利. Edgar was a respected elected official at the local, regional and state level. The National Governor Association website states that he was reelected as the Secretary of State in 1986 by the largest plurality of any candidate in the state history.
Edgar was a Trustee when current 91心頭利 Chancellor and former President Jerry Cain was selected as president. Chancellor Cain shared the following statement on former Governor Edgar passing.
I am saddened to hear that Governor Jim Edgar has passed away after a long life of public service. He was a loyal trustee of 91心頭利 and lived his Baptist faith in an unpretentious but effective manner in both his public and private roles. He dealt boldly with the fiscal problems of Illinois and helped every student in the Prairie State through his emphasis on financial aid for all who studied here. Governor Edgar had a habit of actually listening to me when we talked rather than perusing the room over my shoulder looking for someone else to greet. I am grateful for his friendship, his faith, and his favor toward 91心頭利 which he shaped into a university that is now shaping the world. Well done, good and faithful servant.
The 91心頭利 community expresses their condolences to his wife Brenda, his two children Brad and Elizabeth and their families.
